Sorry I've been awal folks...a lot to tend to right now and I'll be honest. Appleseed is going to have to take a break for awhile.

Not much money in jewelry making right now, so I think I'll pick it back up around Christmas time when things get a bit busier...so I might not be around as much over here.

But!

Easy Drawstring Bag

So, I've been wanting to try making a few bags (see my first here) and I've been having a lot of fun with it!

I saw this tut linked up to Mad Skills Monday once and thought I try it with hopes of making a make up bag...here is how it turned out!

I followed the same tut but made a few changes.

I used 2 coordinating fabrics (one for the outside and one for the liner) to make the bag a little sturdier.

I also changed the dimensions to 8x12...makes the opening a little wider and easier to get into.

These would make a great quick gift for a lucky lady! Hope you like it!

Make Your Own Re-usable Swiffers!

So I shared this over at SSB awhile ago and recently thought...why in the world did I not post it over here too??? Blonde moment...

Here's Jack cleaning...he's so sweet!

So here it is...your very own, hand made re-usable swiffer pads. Better for the environment and your wallet...no more pricey refills!!!

What you need:
micro-fiber rags (I got a 2 pack at the $1 store for..well, $1.)
sewing machine
swiffer broom for measurement reference
scissors, thread, etc.

Step 1: Get a measurement by using the swiffer broom.

The rags I bought were a perfect square! Yeah! So I just cut right down the middle.

Step 2: Sew up the raw edge in a zig zag.

Step 3: Repeat with your other rags and all done!

Four re-usable swiffer pads hand made by you!
Well done!

Bath Salt Tutorial!

So I make some pretty yummy bath salts and I wanted to share with you all a great way to make them...super easy and super cheap! They make awesome gifts!

The scent I'm sharing with you is a delicious Pure Vanilla.

What you'll need:
--pure vanilla extract
--1 cup Epsom salt (great for sore muscles and $1 at the Dollar Tree)
--wax paper
--decor or mason jar (I've even lade samples using baby food jars)
--pretty material for topper

Step 1: Take a large mixing bowl and add the salt and a tablespoon of vanilla (add more for a stronger scent).

Step 2: Mix well and then lay it thinly out on a sheet of wax paper to dry. May take 2-5 hours to dry completely.

Step 3: While salt is drying, measure and cut a circle of decorative fabric to fit the top of your jar.

Step 4: Fill your jar with the salt (make sure it is fully dry) and secure the fabric around the lid with a rubber band.

Step 5: Top it off with a cute ribbon to hide the rubber band and all done! S custom gift hand made by you! Don't wanna make it? Click here to shop!

Ready for Summer Lime

So I'm finally getting around to posting about the little painting I did...I mentioned it here for Mad Skills Monday.

Boy, it felt so good to be painting again! I may have to do a few more...just for fun!

Here are a few close ups...

It's just a small painting on 8.5x11 canvas paper (you can get a pad of this stuff for just a few bucks at the craft store), but it packs a punch at my office! I took it to work to hang on the wall near my desk! Everyone loves it!

Feature...? Anybody...?

So, yeah...its been a really hectic couple of weeks. This time of year is always crazy though, you'd think I'd be used to it.

All through May its nothing but birthdays, birthdays, birthdays. There are so many, I can't even attend them all. And it continues all through June and July too! June 1st is my birthday (I'll be 24, er, 28) Sigh...

Then we have my wedding anniversary on June 3rd and my youngest will turn 1 on the 22nd. Then 4th of July...the list goes on!

Not to mention, I'm starting an in-home childcare center. Yup. Super busy.

But anyhoo, on to my point!!!
I wanna feature somebody! I got ahead in blogland because people were kind enough to feature me...either a project I did or they hosted a giveaway...all that jazz. Wire-Wrapped River Rock Tutorial

Alrighty! I know its been awhile since I've posted over here...I just get so busy! Too many projects all at once.

But here we go with a great tut for you!

A custom wire-wrapped river rock pendent! Very pretty and Earthy!

What you need:
24 gauge wire, river rocks, jewelry findings (clasp, jump rings, etc.), black cording.

With about 2 feet of wire (just eyeball it...depends on how much you wanna use), start wrapping the rock.

I twisted the end of the wire into a little off-center knot as an accent or you can twist it on the backside to hide it.

Take another piece of wire about 5 inches long and fold in half. Then insert it around a few strands of the wrapped wire to hang the necklace by. Wrap it around itself to secure it.

For my necklace, I took two pieces of black cording and fixed the ends with necklace findings (you just insert the cord and pinch the edges together with pliers to secure it). Then with jump rings, I added the clasp.

With another jump ring, add your pendent to the necklace and all done! An Earthy necklace custom made by you!

Denim Cuff Bracelet Tutorial

Today I'm sharing how to make a cute little denim cuff...and I will be adding this tut over at SSB for Stuff from Old Jeans.

So what you need is a piece of denim that measures your wrist (I used the pant leg seam because of the thread color and the look, but you can use any portion of the jeans you want). Needle and thread, a snap, and some colorful beads.

Sew on your snap closures and then sew on your beads for a little pizzazz! All done and ready for wearing!

Today, I'm showing you a cute denim flower pin I made out of scraps from the denim monster! Here's what you do...

Cut out some petals from scrap.

Thread your needle and start to sew the petals together at the bottom.

Keep sewing them into a fan-like pattern until you've sewn a little flower shape.

Pull the thread tight, sew the middle of the flower to keep it secure. Then add some beads.

Sew a cute cluster of beads and warm up your glue gun! Cut a small rectangle of scrap for the back of your pin.

Hot glue the pin to the back of the denim flower.

Add a little more glue and add the little rectangle of denim over the pin. Secure it tightly around the edges of the pin.

Let it dry...all done and ready for wearing!

Super cute and easy! Perfect little accent for springtime!

Rubber Chicken Challenge

First up, I've begun what I call the Rubber Chicken Challenge! Creating as many meals as possible out of ONE 6 lb Roast Chicken...its gonna be interesting. Check out Meal #1!

I'm also beginning a short series of posts called Stuff from Old Jeans...and it's just that...stuff made or re-purposed from old jeans. A challenge to be creative!

Cute Baby Toys Tutorial!

Hi all,

I have really been getting into sewing lately and even though I still have no sewing machine...I've been tearing it up with some sewing fun...HAND sewing that is!

Here are a few of my first handy-works...not too shabby if I do say so myself.

The yellow and denim toys are show cased on SSB's Mad Skills Monday! Head over to check it out and participate! Its gonna be fun!

Here's how to make the larger loopy ball...lots of fun for you to make and baby to play with!

Here's what you need:

material (I also used some scrap felt), scissors, needle, thread, and lots of ribbon!

Cut out a pattern in the shape of a football and cut your desired fabric. You'll need 6 sides.

Pin your pieces, wrong sides together, with the ribbon in place (in between your fabric). Keep the ends of your ribbon on the outside so it will loop when turned right side out. Stitch together.

Finished stitching all the way around, turn right side out and stuff! Stitch up your hole and you're all done! Ready for playtime!

Felt Accessory Tutorial!

Phew! It's been a while since I've been around...my poor kiddo's were sick :-( But all better now!

Here is my first tutorial! Yah! I'm gonna show you how to make Felt Accessories! See a few here...
Here's what you need:

felt (any coordinating colors)
scissors
button
needle and thread

Then, choose an accessory to make...a cute head band or a pin...I chose to make a cute hair tie.

Cut the felt in your desired shape.
You can do a flower, circles...whatever you want. I chose to do a cute little teardrop design...

Now sew it secure with a coordinating button. I chose to use a bright blue thread for a punch of color...(sorry pic is a little fuzzy)

Cut a little rectangle of scrap felt and set aside...now warm up your glue gun!

Glue down your tie (or whatever you choose to make).

Add a little more glue and place the rectangle from scrap over your accessory to secure it. Be sure to tuck around the edges tightly.

Let dry and all done! Now you have a super cute accessory to accent any outfit!

Hi all!

Hi all,

Got this great tip from Songberries...and who does not have this problem? I practically swore off wearing skirts for this reason.

So to prevent static buildup in your clothing, take some hand lotion, rub into your hands and then apply to your legs, rump, or where ever...she swears by it!

Darn it...now I'm gonna have to start pulling out my skirts and shave my legs...LOL!

Tips n' Tidbits-Easy Cleaning Tips

Have company coming over unexpectedly?? Spruce up the most popular rooms in your home quickly and effectively! Here are a few minute cleaning tips I have discovered...get your home looking clean in under 15 minutes...maybe less!

10 second Bathroom Haul:

Close the toilet lid
Pull the shower curtain closed
Clear the counter of clutter
Put a full roll of t.p. on the holder
Light a candle!
Open the shades to the window a little (natural light does wonders)

10 minute Kitchen Haul:

Clear counter of clutter
Clear the sink and stove of dishes
Remove magnets from the front of your fridge
Brew some coffee (smells good and you can offer it to your guests)
Light a candle!
Dim the lighting (only use your under-cabinet lighting if you have it or just use the stove light)

2 minute Den or Living Room Haul:

Clear toys, baby gear, etc. from the room
Add a throw and a few pillows to the couch or chairs
Turn off the TV and play some soft music
Febreeze your furniture and carpet for a fresh, clean scent
Dim the lighting by using just a few lamps
Light a candle!

With that, your home looks clean, organized, and inviting!

Tips n' Tidbits-Cheesy Baked Pasta

This is a real crowd pleaser! Kids love it and it produces plenty of left overs for later on in the week!

Cheesy Baked Pasta

This is a three part recipe: meat sauce, white cheese sauce, and baked pasta. An inexpensive recipe that has delicious results!!

2 cups pasta sauce
1 pound ground beef; optional (can substitute turkey)
3 cups macaroni or ziti pasta
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
grated nutmeg to taste
salt/pepper to taste
1 tbsp Italian seasoning

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Fill large stock pot up to 2/3 full and bring to boil. Brown ground meat in skillet; add salt/pepper to taste. When water is at a rolling boil, add pasta. While meat is browning and pasta cooking, put cream in a sauce pan over med heat. Shred cheddar and mozzarella cheeses and set aside. Add pasta sauce to ground meat to heat through. Once cream is at a slight simmer, add half of the shredded cheeses. Stir to thicken and melt cheese. Add freshly grated nutmeg, pepper, and Italian seasoning to cheese sauce. Check pasta, strain and add to meat sauce. Pour pasta and meat sauce into a 2 qt baking dish. Pour cheese sauce over the pasta; no need to mix in. Top with the remaining cheese and bake for 15-20 minutes until warmed through and the cheese is golden on top. Serve with salad.

Check this out...found this at Everything That Is Nice. We've all heard this idea, but here is another great look to go for.

I've heard of fabric in frames, but never thought of wallpaper...hmmm. I really love some of the great wallpaper patterns you can find these days, but absolutely dread the thought of putting it up in the house...plus, my husband pretty much vetoed wallpaper whenever we bought our house. So this might be a great alternative!

And the the idea to look for frames at the thrift store? That's right up my alley. Thanks for the great tip!

Applecider Vinegar-the Cure All for Dogs, Cats, and more...

Hi all,

Its been awhile since I posted a good tip, so I thought I'd share this one that I recently discovered.

My poor dog Lily had a rotten bladder infection, I decided to do a little research about what we could do for her before making her go to the vet (she hates it)! Just about everything I read included this one item...Apple cider vinegar!

Apparently, it is the go-to, cure-all for just about any ailment from bladder and kidney infections to fleas. Just a little splash in her water and her infection should clear up...I thought why not. And let me clarify, I called the vet and he said it was perfectly safe and we could try it before bringing her in.

Well, it worked! She's healthy as could be now! Super cost effective too as this one gallon jug costs only $3 at my local grocery store! Whats more? Her fur is so soft (like she just had a bath), her dry skin is much healthier (she also has skin allergies), no more hot spots (typical in Texas weather), and we've noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in the bugs!

Tips and Tidbits-Super Sweet Nursery Decor

I love decorating!! Its one of my favorite things to do. So while pregnant with both of my children, I jumped at the chance to do something fun and unique while still remaining practical and not going overboard (which is what I did with my first). Well, doesn't everybody go coo-coo over the first?

Anyways, for my Sam, I wanted clean lines and simple colors to dazzle his room. Now, I don't sew (much to my regret) so I picked out a great style from BRU and designed around that.

Simple shapes of cars, trucks, and airplanes offer a cute boyish environment. I wanted something that went well with the fabric for the walls, so I painted my own canvas displays. The final piece turned out lovely and all my friends quickly requested some of their own!

All you need is canvas board (you can get a pack of 3 for less than $5 at Walmart), craft paint and brushes, ribbon (optional, but looks fab) and glue gun to hang it with.

Draw and cut out a pattern to trace onto the canvas (or free hand) and then paint! Let dry and hot glue ribbon to the back to hang by. Eezy peezy and so cute!

Then my mother (who is a fabulous sewer) found an awesome fabric for custom curtains! Now my little Sam has the sweetest nursery around! Happy Crafting!

Kids are so darn funny, aren't they???

Well, my weekend was pretty uneventful...except for this. My oldest son, Jack, (who is 2) convinced me that I need a padlock on the pantry door.

Here he is digging for treasure with a box plastic cutlery and "driving" his cars thru an ENTIRE can of Italian Bread Crumbs...oh man.

Oh whats this?? A WHOLE can of cocoa powder?

Sure is...he tried to hide it under his Kangeroo Climber...sneaky.

Now lets flash forward to bath time...did hubby leave his body soap where little Jack could get it?

Yup. *sigh*

Oh well...at least my husband and I had a great laugh...that was stifled by all the cleaning up we had to do. Post a comment with your funny family story!!!

Blog Swapp'n Fun!

I am very excited to be blog swapping today with Ginger! Thanks Ginger for letting me take over your blog today! Let me start by introducing myself. I'm Kristi with Punkin Seed Productions.
I'm a schizophrenic crafter that can't just focus on one craft - I WANT TO DO THEM ALL!!!! I'm also a homeschool mom of three fun kiddos who keep me busy doing "creative" things like dissecting cow eyes! Yep, I've had to expand my horizons for sure! So feel free to come on over to Punkin Seed Productions and say "hi". I'd love to get to know you all and share some really fun craft ideas!

I wanted to encourage all you "new" crafters. You don't always have to come up with a totally, new, brilliant idea. What about "tweaking" an already super idea? That is one of the fun things about blogging. There are so many creative people out there. I love to see an idea and then expand on it..... and..... that is what I'm doing today!

I know you have all probably seen the popular scrabble tile necklaces out there. You might have even seen the scrabble tile ring that Fonda from Fireflies and Jellybeans did when she was a sweetie and blog swapped with me! Well, let's take that original scrabble tile necklace idea and expand on it! There are already a lot of great tutorials out there on how to cover and glaze the scrabble tile. Here is the link to my site where Fonda did a tutorial on that.

Ok - now let's just take this idea a little further. The original idea was to cover the tile with pretty or fun paper, put a paper glaze on it, glue a bale to the back, add a chain, and poof - you have a stinkin cute necklace! So let's just see how we can change this up a bit:

Take 3 coordinating tiles that you have covered and glazed. Let's connect them together in different ways and see what we come up with:

Add bales (just don't bend the ones you use between the tiles) and connect with E6000 glue:

Or, let's add a rusty ole star and connect with E6000 glue:

Or, let's add a couple of fun scrapbooking paperclips and connect with, you guessed it, E6000 glue:

How about adding them to a barrette?

A little note on this glue:

It's the bomb for keeping things together but be careful with the tube. It's made out of metal and if you squeeze or twist it too much, it breaks and looks like this:

See, wasn't that easy? No rocket science here, just creating, tweaking and little gluing of the fingers!

Turn this...

...into this!

Thrift store purchase , a clear glass plate for .50 cents.

Only painted the backside with crackle and gold paint. Measured the front center of the plate and made a vinyl decal monogram to fit. I now have it sitting inside a wreath in the window above my kitchen sink. Which is really neat when the sun shines through it ;)

Tips and Tidbits-Wall Decor

Walls aren't just for pictures!!! One thing I love to do to spruce up the house is to change it up a bit with wall hangings. Yes, I love pics of my kiddo's and family around (in fact I have an entire wall dedicated to pics of the kids!) and I do have some great coordinating prints hanging in some rooms of the house. But changing it up really leads to an eclectic and eye-pleasing mix!

A few examples? If your artsy (like me), hang some of your own art work up (even if it doesn't match your furniture)! It's YOUR work and that makes it special and a real conversation piece. Have an awesome old rug? Try it on the wall as a tapestry piece.

Here is a pic of my own art above our couch.
How about something a little out of the ordinary? I have keys, dried flowers, crosses, metal and wood plaques, and more in my house. And company ALWAYS comment on the diversity...give it a try!

Just about anything can be used if hung and supported properly. My grand-mother had a large piece of drift wood she had found hanging in her living room for years.
